Sharing Experience by Mr. Md Shahariar Chowdhury (Exchange Program in UKM Malaysia)

by May 29, 2019

Greetings, you are introducing with a master student of Environmental Management Faculty, Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Thailand. This is Md. Shahariar Chowdhry from Bangladesh, and here I have a Thai government fully funded scholarship. My major is Sustainable Energy Management and my research topic is “Perovskite Solar Cell Recycle”. Furthermore, this is unfortunate that PSU does not have any Solar PV research supporting center.

Therefore, after successfully passing my proposal defense I was totally worried about my research experiment. Then, I have shared my problem regarding the experiment problem with Prof. Kua-anan Techato. Very kindly he understood my condition suggested me a 6 mounts exchange program in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia(UKM) with Prof. Nowshad Amin, as Prof. Kua-anan Techato has a collaboration with him. Prof. Nowshad Amin who work on solar energy research Institute at University kebangsaan Malaysia(UKM), in addition, he is a solar expert in Malaysia and works at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) as well. After that, I have got Prof. Nowshad as my thesis Co-Advisor.

As Faculty of Environmental Management has a good collaboration with some Malaysian University. Fortunately, I have got the opportunity to study abroad and Malaysia as an exchange student and really the experience was amazing. I delighted and extremely grateful to them when I got a place for my research, as I was worried about my experiment. Meanwhile, it was as a part of an organized experience and my first time traveling for mobility program as well.

I have gotten an acceptance letter form UKM on June 2018 and reached to Malaysia 27 September 2018. I arrived at UKM by 10 am and meat with Prof. then introduced his research group UNITEN UKM research group. It was a mind-blowing time to me when I meet them. That group has 10 postdoctoral fellow students, they are very helpful and friendly. It was the single greatest decision of my life. That was an eye-opening experience. It improved my communication skills as I was constantly asking questions about the different ways of working. Learning in a different department gave me a better understanding that the same job can change many things while it is in a different country, and it also made me aware that my skills were versatile. During the time I learned practically on basic solar cell, Applied Chemistry, thin film solar cell & Perovskite solar PV fabrication and Solar cell recycle and cell characterizations as well.

Finally, it could conclude the quality of life and the vast professional and academic activity attract a great number of expats for work or studies. Personally, in the context of my studies, I had the opportunity to gain substantial professional experience in my area of interest. So far, I have successfully completed internships at the Permanent Mission of Malaysia. The writing goes to suggest a student to encourage for finding and taking an exchange program abroad comfortably.
